Snow Falls Softly On Spring

Snow falls softly on spring.  Frozen ice with uneven layers of snow on top welcome the new cover. A peaceful and fitting Sunday. A glaring sun struggles to peak through the white sky.  It won't be long now.

Beach side homes welcome the excitement of purple, yellow and white crocuses as they whisper, "spring" popping up through the whiteness. Soon the bluebirds will begin their nesting. The Ruby-throated hummingbird is the only species that regularly visits New Hampshire. Hummingbirds are magical. Knowing they migrate twice annually through the Gulf of Mexico only adds to their mystery.

Spring in New England is wet, cold and there is lots of mud.  Some say New England has five seasons, one being mud.  The cost of ensuring nature's bounty, plenty of water and lush foliage.  New Englanders are a happy sort in the warmer months.  Smilitis is ubiquitous.  Gardening is the local sport.  Lawn parties abound.  Everyone is outside.

In the spring
the birds will sing
children will play
the whole day

Plants will grow
to and fro
it's spring, you know?
