I love theatre! Film. But an outing today has really upset me. Now nearly everyone knows about the murders in the movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado a few weeks ago. I didn't much appreciate being subject to a purse check after I paid for a ticket. The manager says there is a small print statement about this by the ticket office. Small print. Tantamount to lying. Our mothers taught us well. I didn't see it.
So they check purses, handbags, backpacks. They say they also look to ensure no one is bringing food into the theatre. They would rather us have junk - carbs, sweet drinks. Not food.
Well, I loved the film I saw. Loved it! I did not love the intrusion. No where did they check for shoulder weapons, or those tied to the legs or arms.
What next ` a pat down?
It will be a long time til I return to the theatre. Apparently lots of others feel the same way. If the theatre is concerned about OUR welfare, they will hire police officers inside the theatre showings. And, they won't charge us for it, either. They will built it into doing business as usual.
